“Mayday! Mayday! We’re going down!!!”
The first few words in the cache description sound ominous.
This cache GC5PBTJ Crash Landing was placed on the 13th March 2015 by a local Millicent team, iml72. It is a highly favourited cache with more than 40 favourite points awarded. It is located at a small rural airport, just on the outskirts of Millicent, a country town in the South East of South Australia in the Limestone Coast. The airport is privately owned by the Wattle Range Council and the cache owner has obtained the necessary approval to place the cache inside the grounds.
The cache won 2 awards at SAGA 2015 – Gold for Best Country Cache and Silver for Best Traditional Cache. Since the awards were won, the original cache nose-dived and had its very own crash landing. On the 2nd of June 2018 the coordinates were updated and another novel cache container was placed, continuing to keep to the theme of its location. It is one the whole family will enjoy.
The airport hosts a variety of aircraft from small private planes, gliders, helicopters, mail/money plane, water bombers and the RFDS. The Airport building opens its doors for events to cater for special occasions.
Less than a kilometre from here is the location for a huge event being hosted by GeocachingSA GC82DAN GeoVenture2020 at Easter time (10th – 13th April 2020). The event will bring people to the town from all over the country. Come and see what Millicent and the Wattle Range District have to offer.
