The 8th SA Geocaching awards were held March 31st, 2019 at Linde Reserve. Despite the threat of rain in the morning it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon with plenty of sunshine.551b4bb2-ae40-4a4d-8411-e6693d059f4d_l

The near record number of 47 teams (this may still increase due to late loggers) were welcomed with bread and sausages and once proceedings started they were welcomed by no other than Signal!

In absence of the Travelinbees, whose mother sadly passed away earlier in the week,  *Cache_or_Check* took over the reigns and delivered an impromptu welcome speech. He thanked the committee of Sneaky Squeaky, TravellinBees and new members -Bek- and Alex the Squirrel for all their hard work.

The biggest plaudit was for SnappyTomCats though who again sponsored all the prizes and certificates. Especially the glass trophies looked fantastic!

SAGA FlagDustin’s cache from Skuzzybear came out the big winner by taking out the best Overall Cache category and best traditional.

I need lessons…. do you? from CPwanderer took out silver and Noch mehr alte stinkende from *Cache_or_Check*, Magical Unicorns – 58 – Monty Zoomer from equipe de cinq and Break the safe from Team Scoobster finished equal third. Those last three caches also won best multi, best mystery and puzzle and best large cache.

As has been custom over the last 3 events we handed out special gold, silver and bronze pins to all new medal winners. This year Brad & Janet, bgmat, Team Scoobster and equipe de cinq joined *Cache_or_Check*, Freddo, CPwanderer, **JEM**, McKee Clan and 3LG as the only teams having earned all three pins!

The last award of the afternoon was for the winner of the hider of the year. After receiving 2 silvers and a bronze in previous years, Freddo took out the gold. Brad & Janet (adding to last year’s silver) and *Cache_or_Check* (adding to his previous gold, silver and bronze) finished equal runners up.

Sef nearly gave John from SnappyTomCats a heart attack by dropping the glass trophy, but some quick reaction prevented the glassware from shattering.

Luckily this was the only glitch in an otherwise perfect afternoon.

See you all next year for the 2019 SAGAs!
